The backside of the wiring panel has several metal straps that allow power or ground to shunt around as needed to operate the wipers normally.
Here I have cut several of these to isolate the individual contacts - I will be attaching wires directly to many of them so that an arduino can determine what position the switches are in.
I did make one too many cuts, and at least one of these I had to bridge later to fix my mistake.
A couple of wires have been cut off the panel as well, as their functions will be re-routed.
The long L shaped strap at the bottom originally carried 12v to the control module / washer pump motors in the car, so I had to re-attach 12v power into the contact at far left, leaving the two at lower right available to wire to the arduino as a separate switch.
