The gold colored metal insert in the center of this photo is normally embedded in the plastic of the dash. One screw threads into it from the front of the control cluster to hold them in the dash.
Prying these controls out by force ripped the insert out of the dash. I was able to shove it back into the dash with a little force and some epoxy, holds the controls as if nothing happened.
